Believe in God

(Acts 17:24-26) 24 “The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. 26. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.
I believe we were created to live and love as people who belong to God and to one another.

While I recognize that God lives and moves and works and plays in each of our lives, I think things get interesting when we take the time to cultivate an awareness of how God is present among us—in our life together. I believe we are called to live with one another and for one another; in short, I believe we are called to live in community. What does it mean to “believe in Jesus”? It means more than believing that some man deserves to be called the Son of God. It means more than saying a few prayers every day asking God to bless you and your family.

It more than paying tithes, obeying commandments and offering sacrifice—and all the other customs the Jews practiced in the Old Testament. To believe in Jesus means more than trying to be a good person, paying your debts, refusing bribes and telling the truth. It means more than loving God and loving neighbour the way. It is in precisely this sense that the Bible proclaims that those who deny God are “fools” (Psalms 14:1).
